Who Are We?
We are a team of dedicated Rotravel Sri Lankan volunteers committed to empowering communities and strengthening global collaboration through meaningful field experiences and cultural exchange.
Our organization bridges the gap between skilled volunteers and communities in need, creating sustainable partnerships that benefit everyone involved.
What We Do
Our Mission
Rotravel volunteer offers students, graduates and explorers an opportunity to gain invaluable hands-on Jungle Expedition, Agriculture, social, Education, Health work experience in Sri Lanka whilst making a positive change. Our primary focus is on Social works, and we are dedicated to strengthening the existing resources in the communities where we operate aiming to make a long-lasting impact. Our goal is to give skilled volunteers the chance to make a meaningful difference through a culturally immersive experience, working at Expedition facilities, Agriculture (mainly Tea, Cinnamon, Rubber) hospital facilities and social initiatives for adults and children with disabilities, and teaching English.
Empowering Volunteers
Volunteers undergo training and induction, bringing their own experiences, skill set, and knowledge, to facilitate sessions at our partner projects. They have the privilege of working with a diverse group of individuals, from students learning English to those residing in institutional care throughout the local communities. Additionally, volunteers take part in discussions with clinical health, psychiatrists, and workshops involving various therapeutic methods like laughing yoga, dance movement therapy, and more.

Our Vision
We envision a world where professionals engaged in forest expeditions, tea, rubber, and cinnamon agriculture, healthcare, social work, and education embrace global perspectives. We believe these international experiences provide unique opportunities for personal and professional growth.
Through active engagement and collaboration with diverse communities and local leaders in these sectors, our volunteers gain deep insights into the customs, traditions, and beliefs that shape Sri Lankan culture. This cultural immersion is not only a rich learning experience but also a bridge for mutual professional development enhancing understanding, respect, and practices across all parties involved.
Our aim is to inspire a spirit of cooperation and shared purpose that uplifts individuals, supports sustainable development, and celebrates the value of cultural diversity in every field of work.
Why We're Different
Resource Allocation
We channel all our financial and physical resources into staffing, our projects, and organisational costs. There is no profit or money withdrawn from the organization, and is how we keep our fees so low.
Our Approach: Beyond Voluntourism
We do not support the concept of "voluntourism"βshort-term, superficial engagements that prioritize the visitor's experience over meaningful local impact. Our focus is on creating sustainable, responsible, and respectful partnerships that truly benefit local communities.
Cultural Exchange
As part of our commitment to meaningful cultural exchange, we believe that truly understanding another culture requires direct, lived experience. That's why our volunteers live like locals staying with host families, sharing meals prepared in traditional ways, and participating in the everyday customs and celebrations of Sri Lankan life.
Training & Preparation
We are committed to ensuring that our volunteers are fully prepared, confident, and equipped with the skills and knowledge needed for both their placement and future endeavors. At the start of the program, we provide a comprehensive training week that includes seminars, hands-on workshops, and cultural orientation.
Suitable Volunteers
We are deeply committed to making a meaningful and lasting impact. To uphold this standard, we only accept volunteers who successfully pass our interview process and demonstrate alignment with our values, mission, and goals.
Just Us
Unlike commercial tour operators, all our staff are directly employed by Kugha SLVolunteers. We work hand-in-hand with the projects we support, forming direct partnerships rather than acting as a middleman. From your first day to your final placement moment, we are with you every step of the way.
